It began with a standing ovation — not for applause, but for agreement.
In November 2016, Larry Fowler delivered his opening talk at the first Legacy Coalition Grandparenting Summit in Frisco, Texas. Near the end, he shared a declaration for grandparents who wanted to be more than fun visitors — grandparents who wanted to be spiritual influencers. The audience stood. They agreed. And they've asked to recite it together at nearly every Summit since.
That declaration became this calligraphy art print, lettered by renowned Christian calligrapher Timothy Botts — himself an intentional Christian grandparent. Printed on thick Royal Sundance Felt Paper in vibrant colors, it's suitable for framing and display in a home, office, or church as an ongoing reminder of a grandparent's commitment and legacy.
On one level, it's a beautiful work of art. On a deeper level, it's a covenant — the 14 characteristics of an Intentional Christian Grandparent (one for each letter of "GRANDPARENTING"): Guide with grace, Respect roles, Abound in affection, Nurture, Deal with distance, Pray with passion, Adjust attitude, Restore, Excel as an example, Number my days, Testify, Be Intentional, Never neglect, Give the Gospel.
A graduation ceremony tradition. Many churches use the Grandparenting Matters video seminar (available on DVD, digital download, or classroom license) as a six-week Grandparenting 101 course. At the conclusion, the class stands and recites the declaration together, then takes home this print as their graduation certificate. One participant wrote: "We gave the declaration to our (59) class members at the conclusion of the 6 week class. We stood and read it aloud together. It was very powerful and they were very appreciative of this gift. Thank you for making it available. It's beautiful and powerful!"
Why a 25-pack? Churches and ministries give one to each grandparent in their study groups — $1.40 per print, supply one to everyone who completes the journey.
Pairs well with: our Christian Grandparenting Bookmark → — the bookmark carries the same 14-characteristic GRANDPARENTING acrostic in a pocket-sized format, while the art print declares it on your wall. Same mission, two formats. Keep one in your Bible; frame one on your wall.
